BAM Nuttall had to comply with their client's minimum Cut C requirement, but found the Cut C gloves cumbersome and restrictive, making handling challenging. Workers were also removing gloves to use devices, as the products were not touchscreen compatible.
With sustainability at the heart of BAM Nuttall as they strive to lead the industry to a positive, sustainable future, Traffi supported their goal of reducing CO2 and waste with one of Traffi's Life Extending Technology (LXT) gloves.
Reported unavoidable cut injuries dropped 66% from 2022 to 2023, with 6% fewer gloves needed and longer glove life. Based on 100 wearers, moving to LXT saved 1.86 tonnes of emissions, 2,510 pairs of gloves and £9,186 a year.
With safety its number one priority, BAM Nuttall was prompted by one of its PPE suppliers to contact Traffi to review hand safety when issues arose. BAM Nuttall had to comply with the minimum standard of Cut C protection requested by their client.
However, they found the Cut C gloves cumbersome and restrictive, which made general handling activities challenging. There was also a trend of workers removing their gloves to use devices, because the products provided were not touchscreen compatible, leaving hands unprotected.
BAM Nuttall needed hand protection that met their client's Cut C requirement without compromising dexterity or encouraging workers to remove their gloves. Traffi offered a glove that met the cut level while improving comfort, durability and touchscreen usability, and that could be tested with workers before any wider rollout.
BAM Nuttall and Traffi began a partnership to resolve these challenges. Traffi recommended the TG6240 for its high cut resistance, dexterity, hard-wearing coating and touchscreen capability, and ran trials with workers to confirm it suited the tasks.

Once the trials were complete, it was clear the TG6240 was the preferred glove, lasting double the time of the previous products, with overall performance rated as excellent. This gave BAM Nuttall a glove that met the cut requirement while improving comfort and reducing waste.
Moving to the LXT range saved, based on 100 glove wearers, 1.86 tonnes of emissions in a year, 2,510 pairs of gloves in wastage, and £9,186 per year.
