Cammell Laird have been at the forefront of UK shipbuilding and ship repair for more than 120 years, with over 1,350 ships built since its inception, including HMS Rodney, HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Ark Royal.
This is how Traffi worked with Cammell Laird to reduce cut injuries across their workforce, and the measurable impact that followed.

Cammell Laird were experiencing a high level of cut related hand injuries. An internal review showed a wide variety of gloves in use, with glove usage unregulated. An enforced safety glove policy was needed to reduce confusion and injuries.
Traffi conducted a safety glove audit and found Cammell Laird had no minimum cut level in place. Following the audit, recommendations were made and a minimum cut rating of Level E was implemented across the site.
Reported unavoidable cut injuries dropped 66% from 2022 to 2023, with 6% fewer gloves needed and longer glove life. The most popular glove was the TG6240, Traffi's flagship, chosen for its comfort, grip and cut protection alongside its environmental credentials. Cammell Laird also saw a 4.6% increase in average working hours from 2022 to 2023.

Any approach also needed to be cost-effective. Not necessarily the cheapest, but offering value for money. Because their existing gloves required frequent replacement, the new gloves needed to be durable enough to deliver a better cost in use.
Cammell Laird chose to partner with Traffi because of the number of hand injuries they were experiencing, which was largely caused by a lack of consistency across the site.

A high level of support is standard, and Cammell Laird were no exception. Beyond the supply of safety gloves, their team benefitted from a glove induction to support the rollout and help workers understand the new policy.

Going forward, a plan has been put together for monthly educational emails to management teams. This is to help them further educate glove wearers on topics such as the importance of hand protection, the TraffiSystem, and promotional content to engage them with the safety gloves they are wearing.
Traffi recommended four of its seamless gloves (TG5570, TG5545, TG6240 and TG6060), suitable for different tasks and conditions. The most popular was the TG6240, the flagship glove, chosen for its combination of comfort, grip and cut protection alongside its environmental credentials.
There was a 66% drop in reported unavoidable cut injuries from 2022 to 2023. The new Traffi gloves also lasted longer, reducing the total number of gloves needed by 6% compared with 2022. Cammell Laird also saw a 4.6% increase in average working hours over the same period."
