Case study

Speedy

Speedy Hire is one of the UK's largest tools and equipment hire specialists, founded in 1977 and operating from over 200 sites nationwide, supporting construction, infrastructure and the trades. With drivers and depot staff handling tools and equipment daily, hand and finger injuries are a consistent and preventable risk.

This is how Traffi worked with Speedy to support a more consistent approach to glove safety across their workforce.

“SPEEDY HAVE FOUND THE SUPPORT FROM TRAFFI GOOD,” CONTINUES GRAHAM. “AND WE ARE LOOKING TO DISCUSS A JOINED-UP APPROACH TO REFRESH THE CAMPAIGN AND ENSURE THE TRAFFI GLOVE IS CONSIDERED AS THE FIRST CHOICE FOR OUR EMPLOYEES.”

Graham Neave, Head of Health and Safety

What was the initial problem?

Safety is the number one priority for Speedy, and they were looking for a hand protection partner to reduce hand and finger injuries ranging from cuts and abrasions to fractures and dislocations. Their PPE provider suggested they contact Traffi, the hand protection specialists.

Traffi reviewed Speedy's glove programme to identify why these injuries were occurring. Traffi found that, while in the main the gloves were being worn, the specification of the gloves could be improved to better match the tasks being carried out.

Why Traffi?

Speedy needed a partner who could identify why hand and finger injuries were occurring and improve the specification of the gloves their workforce already wore. Traffi offered a task-based, colour-coded approach to ensure the correct cut level glove was worn for each task, supported by trials across their Service Centres.

OUR SOLUTION

Speedy partnered with Traffi and implemented the TG5545, a high cut level impact glove. Trials were run across several Speedy Service Centres to ensure colleagues were satisfied with the glove and understood the colour-coded system.

THE RESULT

The colour-coded system guarantees the correct cut level glove is worn for the task in hand. The TG5545 was initially trialled for all Speedy drivers but, having been so well received, it has since been made available to other roles within the business.

The TG5545 was well received across Speedy's Service Centres, with colleagues commenting on the quality and durability of the product.

Speedy and Traffi continue to discuss a joined-up approach to refresh the campaign and ensure the Traffi glove is considered first choice for employees.
