SSEN are a UK electricity distribution and transmission network operator responsible for delivering power to over 3.9 million homes and businesses across central southern England and the north of Scotland.
This is how Traffi worked closely with SSEN to audit and consolidate their current safety glove range.
SSEN were experiencing a problem that has become increasingly familiar to Traffi - a rise in the number of hand injuries they were experiencing across the business. Following glove audits at their sites, the reason for this was made clear - they were stocking too wide a variety of gloves.
As a result of successful glove trials, a new, consolidated glove range was proposed that was significantly reduced from their current offering. With the awareness and training content that Traffi provided SSEN alongside the rollout, operatives were able to confidently select the right glove for the right task, and the reduction in hand injuries was noticeable.
From 48 available glove styles to 13, Traffi were able to consolidate SSEN's current hand protection range by 72.92%. Another thing we enjoyed about Traffi was the superb aftersales support. They are always at the end of the phone or email if we have any questions, and it’s made the journey so much easier for us.
Hand protection and safety became top of SSEN's priority list when they began witnessing an increase in hand injuries across the business. After Traffi conducted a glove audit across their sites, it was noted that there were currently 48 different glove styles available to their operatives and little to no guidance on how to select the right glove for their task.
In addition, the size offering from some of the manufacturers did not meet their requirements of having a wide availability of sizes.
SSEN needed a partner that aligned with their own goals. They already had a few Traffi gloves in their catalogue, so they were interested in seeing how Traffi could further help and support them. Traffi's laser focus on sustainability, their expansive size range offering and easy-to-understand colour coded system, made them very appealing to SSEN.
Traffi undertook a glove audit on SSEN's sites, and underwent a consultation with their SHE team to determine where the problem lay. Shortly after this, Traffi proposed a consolidated range, then funded and monitored in depth wearer trials at a number of locations across all key tasks, which proved very successful. The workers appreciated the Traffi gloves, and a lot of great feedback was received.
As a result of the successful trials, the gloves were signed off and rolled out across all the sites.

This was to make the onboarding process simpler and ensure that operatives were comfortable with selecting the right gloves for the right task, as well as making sure they had a good understanding of how the TraffiSystem worked. This was essential in driving maximum compliance across the business.
